Autumn Construction Services has been awarded a prime contract by the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago for the removal and replacement of a 200-ton water-cooled centrifugal chiller at MWRD’s main office building, located in downtown Chicago.
As the prime contractor, Autumn Construction Services will oversee all phases of the work associated with this critical infrastructure upgrade. The project begins with the demolition and removal of the existing chiller. For this phase, Autumn will coordinate closely with the demolition subcontractor, who will be responsible for the safe and efficient dismantling and hauling of the existing equipment.
Following demolition, Autumn will manage the delivery and mechanical installation of the new 200-ton chiller. The new unit will be delivered in sections and brought into the building through an existing shaft using chain hoists. These components will be carefully rigged and moved into the mechanical room, where they will be reassembled on-site under the supervision of the manufacturer’s field engineer. Autumn will also be responsible for installing all required valves, fittings, and mechanical piping necessary for system operation.
In addition to the mechanical installation, the project includes electrical modifications. Autumn will work to coordinate the electrical subcontractor work to complete all necessary power connections and ensure compatibility with the new equipment.
The final component of the project involves upgrading the building’s temperature control systems to ensure optimal performance of the new chiller and improved overall system efficiency. These enhancements will help the district achieve reliable, long-term climate control within its main office facility.
