UIC Utility Plant Chiller Replacement Project

Owner: University of Illinois Chicago

General Contractor: AMS Industries

Project: UIC Chiller Replacement

Location: Chicago, IL

Construction Starts: February 2025

Construction Ends: June 2026

Autumn Construction Services was awarded a $2.9 million mechanical equipment and piping subcontract work for the UIC Chiller Replacement project. AMS Industries is the single prime general contractor.

The Autumn scope of work includes providing a new four-cell field-erected cooling tower structure to upgrade UIC’s overall condenser water system at the utility plant. The utility plant provides campus-wide cooling to UIC buildings and facilities. In addition to the cooling tower build, Autumn will furnish and install 36” diameter exterior condenser water piping to the new tower with 16” branch piping to each tower cell.

The field-erected counterflow four-cell cooling tower will be installed in the existing concrete cooling tower basin. Condenser water pumps will be replaced, and the condenser water supply lines from the new cooling towers will be interconnected with other existing cooling towers. The cooling tower replacement is only part of the overall project, which also includes chillers, pumps, and controls upgrades by the prime contractor.

The project procurement phase started in early 2025 with installation throughout the fall and winter of 2025-2026. Autumn looks forward to a successful project with UIC and AMS Industries.
