Natural Gas Piping for Harper College Emergency Service Fire Training Center

OWNER: Harper College

GENERAL CONTRACTOR: Pepper Construction

LOCATION: Palatine, IL

CONSTRUCTION STARTS: May 2025

CONSTRUCTION ENDS: August 2026

Autumn Construction Services was awarded a natural gas piping project at Harper College’s Emergency Service Fire Training Center. Pepper Construction is the single-prime general contractor.

The mechanical scope includes installing natural gas piping from the classroom building and within the burn tower to supply various burn rooms. Piping will be routed from the control room on each floor of the burn tower to multiple fire-practice devices, including ovens, sofas, beds, and rollover items. Firefighter students will practice proper firefighting techniques in a staged environment.

On this project, Autumn will install in-slab natural gas piping within PVC containment on each floor of the burn tower, along with gas regulators and vent piping. We are coordinating and working with multiple construction trade subcontractors and utility contractors, including excavation, Symtech Fire (live-fire simulation technology), HVAC ventilation ductwork, Nicor Gas, and ComEd.

The project began in June 2025 and will be completed by the third quarter of 2026. Autumn is excited to support the training of future firefighters and looks forward to a successful project with Harper College and Pepper Construction.
